Review the meaning, not just the motion

All 1,818 catalog entries are authored prototypes awaiting fluent Deaf ASL review. The 187 aliases are alternate input labels. The directional HELP-me motion is separate. Technical checks do not establish linguistic accuracy.

2026-10-04: 14 additional manual prototypes

This release brings the catalog to 1,818 entries and 187 aliases. It adds 14 manual entries and 0 aliases, with 3 explicit compounds and 0 initialized forms. These categories overlap; the entry count does not claim new lexical roots. No fingerspelling receives extra sign credit.

Each selected motion has source and variant notes, production-pose review and the documented contact/clearance checks. Evidence covers sampled poses and targeted paths. It does not establish continuous clearance or linguistic accuracy. Source text, illustration and demonstration coverage varies; original authoring notes remain alongside the final technical status.

The prior 1,804 motions, Maya, alphabet, sentence composition, zoom and view controls remain unchanged. Mouth, head, facial expression and citation rhythm still require fluent Deaf ASL review. Forms using the unchanged alphabet-Z handshape retain its known same-hand overlap limitation.

  1. Road Trip: A journey made by road vehicle; the noun citation, CAR followed by TRAVEL. Reference

handshape: Both hands closed S-like steering grips with thumbs across curled fingers. Dominant changes to bent V: index and middle separated and flexed; ring and little curled, thumb folded. Non-dominant retains the steering fist while TRAVEL finishes.; orientation: Steering fists palms inward toward signer, knuckles generally forward. Bent V palm turns obliquely down/forward; its two fingertips are directed forward and slightly down, with wrist adjustment along the route.; location: Both fists in chest free space. Dominant TRAVEL starts near central/dominant lower chest, then finishes farther toward dominant side and slightly higher; base remains near non-dominant chest.; path: Compact paired steering with opposite relative height change. Dominant then forms separated bent V near central chest, dips slightly, travels outward toward dominant side with wrist adjustment and rises to the held endpoint. Base fist remains present in its terminal steering pose. No neutral reset.; contact: No body or interhand contact. Keep the base fist present during TRAVEL rather than resetting it to the rest pose.; repetition: One compound. Preserve the short opposed steering passage, then one continuous wandering bent-V route. Do not import standalone CAR two-cycle timing; exact blurred steering sub-reversal count is not separately asserted.; source_frames: All 51: rest 1–7, steering approach/oscillation 8–19, bent-V conversion 20–23, travel path 24–33, endpoint hold 34–37, release 38–45, rest 46–51. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Visible citation mouthing, gaze, and head changes do not establish an obligatory lexical nonmanual. No fluent Deaf ASL review or usage validation has occurred.

  2. Flat Tire: A tire that is flat/deflated. Signing Savvy FLAT, explicitly as in a flat tire, also lists FLAT TIRE for this exact media. Reference

handshape: Dominant close two-finger/U-like configuration: index and middle extended close together, remaining fingers curled, thumb relaxed alongside. It changes to spread curved5 and then closes to a compact fist. Base remains inactive.; orientation: Two fingers begin pointing non-dominantward and rotate to point down then sideways as the wrist circles. During deflation, palm turns forward with spread fingers; closure ends with knuckles forward/down.; location: Dominant-side low chest/upper-abdomen free space, clearly away from torso and face.; path: One-handed wheel cue rotates through about two compact vertical-plane circuits, then opens to curved spread5 and closes/downshifts once into a fist to depict loss of volume. Endpoint held.; contact: No body or interhand contact. Digit closure is ordinary intrahand folding, not a newly prescribed pinch anchor.; repetition: About two wheel rotations followed by one open-to-closed collapse.; source_frames: All78. Two-finger setup1–17; rotating cue18–35; open/turn36–40; spread hold41–45; closing46–48; compact endpoint49–78. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Citation gaze, eyebrows, mouth and head activity are visible. No fixed obligatory nonmanual is established; fluent Deaf ASL review remains necessary.

  3. Detergent: Detergent cleaning product; selected whole twisting-to-palm-brushing citation. Reference

handshape: Prefix both loosely curved/spread hands, thumbs separated. Suffix dominant four joined fingers bend together, thumb stays apart; base opens flat palm with thumb apart.; orientation: Prefix upper dominant palm down, lower base palm up; compact opposed twists preserve vertical separation. Suffix active bent finger group points down toward base palm with oblique inward/down palmar presentation; base palm remains upward.; location: Prefix upper and lower chest hand space, then suffix central lower chest. No face/body contact.; path: Two compact opposed twisting excursions of vertically separated hands. Base opens/raises while dominant converts to joined bent fingers, then two short finger-pad brushing landings, each followed by an upward/back withdrawal. Final active bent hand is separated over the base.; contact: Prefix has no intended contact. Suffix contact is dominant bent distal finger-pad group against base palmar skin; not heel or arbitrary thumb proximity. Preserve short tangential brushing and recoil.; source_frames: All104: initial hold1–32; twist excursions33–42 and47–51 with return43–46; transition52–61; first brush62–65; recoil66–70; second brush71–74; raised ending hold75–104.; repetition: Two opposed twists then two SOAP-like brushes in one attested whole compound. Exact numerical timing is authored. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Visible citation gaze/mouth/facial activity does not establish a fixed obligatory nonmanual; fluent Deaf ASL review and neutral equivalence remain pending.

  4. Baseball Cap: A baseball-style cap with a bill. Reference

handshape: Dominant thumb and index remain gathered into a small bill grip; middle, ring and little stay gathered/folded. Base inactive. Do not substitute the flat crown-patting hand of HAT.; orientation: Grip starts upright/oblique near dominant brow/hairline; the wrist turns modestly as it draws down on the imagined bill. Exact thumb/index interior seating and palm roll are partly occluded, not a source alphabet label.; location: Dominant brow/forehead and the forward bill space, not the crown.; path: Hold the bill grip, make two short downward tugs with an upward reset, then hold the lower endpoint. No neutral reset or base involvement.; contact: Exact depth and possible head/hair contact are obscured. No compulsory external skin-pressure predicate or separately timed intrinsic pinch is inferred. Keep the source projected brow-level relation and gathered grip; any authored model gap earns no source contact credit.; repetition: Two downward bill tugs with one reset.; source_frames: All36: setup1–17; high preparation18; first tug19–23; upward reset24–27; second tug28–33; hold34–36. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Citation face/head movement is present; no obligatory fixed marker established. Neutral-face equivalence and fluent Deaf ASL review remain pending.

  5. Deflate: To deflate, losing air or inflated volume. Reference

handshape: One open flat hand with four close upright fingers and a spread thumb gathers/closes its four fingers over the thumb side. Use the observed compact endpoint, without asserting an alphabet letter or copying FLAT TIRE's fist. Base inactive.; orientation: Palm forward at the open start; modest wrist down-turn accompanies gathering, leaving the compact group obliquely forward/down.; location: Dominant-side lower chest/upper-abdomen free space, separated from torso.; path: One open-to-gathered closure while lowering once, then held endpoint. No second stroke or paired-hand compression.; contact: No body or interhand contact. The concealed internal finger-pad seating is not a new timed intrahand contact predicate.; repetition: One lowering/gathering event.; source_frames: All52: open hold1–34; initial bend35; gathering36; compact endpoint37–38; held39–52. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

The signer narrows/purses the mouth during closure and changes head/eye expression. This prototype will require nonmanual/fluent review; no claim that neutral facial expression fully preserves the lexical form.

  6. Basketball Hoop: A basketball goal hoop. Reference

handshape: Initial bilateral thumb/index/middle active curved three, with ring/little gathered. During rise each changes to an open thumb/index curve, with middle/ring/little gathered. No F ring closure is prescribed.; orientation: Initial finger groups point mainly medially with a forward/up component, palms obliquely upward/inward, with compact wrist rolls during the ball-like pulses. Overhead index stems become upward, curving toward the raised thumbs, showing dorsal/knuckle and thumb-side edges; palms obliquely bodyward/inward. Exact 3D angle/depth remains unresolved.; location: Initial wrists in abdomen/lower-chest space, then rise beside and above forehead with distal index/thumb curves above crown. Hands stay separated.; path: Two compact ball-like pulses, then one continuous bilateral rise apart into an overhead open rim hold.; contact: No source body or interhand contact. Literal curved handshapes are required without a separate intrinsic per-tip contact target.; source_frames: All85: ball-like prepared hold1–24; compact pulses25–32 and35–43; narrowed grip transition44–49; overhead rise50–61; held rim62–85.; repetition: Two compact preparatory pulses followed by one rise and hold. Numeric timing and 3D metrics are authored. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Visible citation expression does not establish a fixed obligatory nonmanual; fluent Deaf ASL review and neutral equivalence remain pending.

  7. Air Pump: An air pump, represented by its repeated pumping action. Reference

handshape: Both hands are closed grips with folded digits and opposed thumbs; no opened fingers during the strokes.; orientation: Wrists are visibly flexed with closed knuckles toward the viewer and palmar faces obliquely inward/down. The closed groups aim downward as the wrists stay bent through the pumping.; location: Prepared wrists around lower chest/upper abdomen, downstrokes toward waist; all phases remain below shoulder and away from body. Hands remain laterally separated.; path: Three synchronized vertical downstrokes, with two upward resets to the same prepared region; final low hold.; contact: No source body or interhand contact. Closed grip silhouette is required without a new intrinsic thumb-finger touch predicate.; source_frames: All79: preparation1–24; first down25–30 and reset31–37; second down42–46 and reset47–54; third down59–64, ending hold65–79.; repetition: Three complete downstrokes and two resets; no gasoline-pump variant and no extra repetition from standalone CAN. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Visible citation expression does not establish a fixed obligatory nonmanual; fluent Deaf ASL review and neutral equivalence remain pending.

  8. Speed Bump: A speed bump or hump in a road. Reference

handshape: One joined flat four-finger hand; thumb lies near the lower hand edge. Base rests.; orientation: Fingers generally nondominantward, palm down. The wrist pitches along the forward rising/falling road contour and returns palm down.; location: Front of chest, with rise toward upper chest then forward/down to upper abdomen.; path: A short settling dip precedes one forward rise and fall; end remains farther forward/lower than the initial chest hold. Preserve forward depth, not a lateral hill arch.; contact: No body or interhand contact shown; no contact predicate.; repetition: One forward bump profile.; source_frames: All81: hold1–32, settling33–41, rise42–50, forward descent51–67, low hold68–81. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Citation facial activity is visible; obligatory lexical status is unestablished. Any neutral-face prototype remains pending fluent/nonmanual review.

  9. Rotate: Things rotating; selected one-hand circular citation. Reference

handshape: Dominant thumb/index L-like hand with remaining fingers closed, held through the circular route; base rests.; orientation: Thumb broadly up, index heading changes from forward through nondominantward and back forward as the whole hand goes around.; location: Front of lower/central torso, crossing toward nondominant side and returning.; path: One continuous horizontal/oblique oval across to nondominant side then back toward dominant side and initial forward presentation. Preserve heading changes and the complete return.; contact: No body or interhand contact shown; no contact predicate.; repetition: One around-and-return passage.; source_frames: All66: hold1–15, preparation16–20, across21–34, return35–54, terminal55–66. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Citation lip rounding/head movement visible; obligatory lexical status unestablished. Fluent/nonmanual review pending.

  10. Tilt Head: To tilt one’s head sideways. Reference

handshape: One compact closed dominant hand, thumb folded across/near the closed fingers. Base rests.; orientation: Closed hand begins upright beside cheek with palm roughly forward, then rotates inward so the knuckles lean nondominantward.; location: Beside dominant cheek/jaw initially, ending toward central upper chest.; path: One inward/downward closed-hand tilt coordinated with a visible head tilt toward the nondominant side, then hold.; contact: Cheek proximity is visible, but definite contact/depth is unresolved. No compulsory head-contact predicate; unrelated overlap is not excused.; repetition: One coordinated manual/head tilt, held endpoint.; source_frames: All34: initial1–10, inward/down tilt11–22, held23–34. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Head tilting is part of the selected depicted action and must be represented. Other facial activity remains pending fluent review.

  11. Flow: Flowing water; selected WATER plus flowing-motion citation. Reference

handshape: Dominant three-finger W with folded thumb/little for the WATER cue, then both hands open to relaxed spread fingers with light undulation.; orientation: W index-side lower-lip/chin presentation matches the reviewed WATERFALL fixture categorically. Flow passage palms down/obliquely down, fingers forward then toward nondominant side with downward tilt; exact 3D roll is authored.; location: W at lower lip/chin, then active wrist descends to chest while base emerges lower near abdomen. Both pass laterally/down toward nondominant side, base lower and farther along. Ending remains around lower torso/waist.; path: One continuous W release to staggered spread hands, then two visible flowing excursions toward the nondominant side/down with a small intermediate retreat/settle and continuing finger undulation. This is not a straight WATERFALL descent or flat RIVER banks.; contact: Required W index-side-to-lower-lip/chin regional skin relation only. No prescribed mutual contact during the flow passage. No separate thumb/little intrinsic contact target is inferred.; source_frames: All89: W hold1–29; release/base emergence30–36; first lateral flowing excursion37–49; smaller retreat/settle50–62; second farther nondominant/downward passage63–73; offset ending hold74–89.; repetition: One WATER cue, then continuing lateral flow with two broad passage excursions. Finger phase and numeric timing are authored, not exact microcycle observations. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Pursed mouth and slight head/gaze tracking accompany the movement; exact lexical versus contextual role remains unvalidated. Fluent review pending.

  12. Cartwheel: A cartwheel. Reference

handshape: Both open spread hands retain their broad shape. The rising hand is briefly cropped mid-arc; open continuity is inferred from immediately visible adjoining phases, not continuously observed.; orientation: Initially dominant open palm faces forward above head; base open palm faces forward/obliquely inward at the low nondominant side. Both wrist bases turn with the high/low exchange, ending roughly forward with fingers toward dominant side.; location: Wide side space from low torso to over the head.; path: One broad sideward overhead exchange of high/low roles: dominant lowers as base rises over the head, coordinated with a large torso/head tilt toward dominant side. Hold the exchanged arrangement.; contact: No hand/body or interhand contact is shown or required. Preserve clearance during broad exchange.; repetition: One high/low exchange and held endpoint.; source_frames: All73: initial1–19, rising/open exchange20–32 with brief upper crop, exchanged/tilted33–41, held42–73. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Large coordinated torso/head tilt is part of the depiction and must be authored. Other facial expression remains pending fluent review.

  13. Somersault: A somersault. Reference

handshape: One index extended on each hand; middle, ring and little curl closed, thumbs gathered against the closed fingers. Neither a U/V pair nor fists.; orientation: Indices generally oppose one another; downward pitch accompanies each low phase. Palms are broadly inward/bodyward with obliquity changing in the rolling movement.; location: Both hands in central lower chest/upper abdomen, staggered in height and authored depth.; path: Both hands participate in two compact vertical forward/back orbits, exchanging high/low positions, then finish facing each other horizontally. No stationary base is substituted.; contact: Native37 obscures depth at the projected crossing. No mandatory fingertip contact or measured source clearance is inferred.; repetition: Two moving-hand orbits then hold.; source_frames: All56: initial1–18; first orbit19–29; second30–41; held42–56. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Citation head/gaze activity visible; obligatory lexical role unestablished. Fluent review pending.

  14. Grate: To grate or shred; selected depicted grating action. Reference

handshape: Both hands remain open curved grips, four fingers softly curled with thumb separated above. Neither a closed fist nor a flat scraping edge is substituted.; orientation: Both curved hands present broadly dorsal surfaces to the viewer, palms inward toward the work space. Base fingers point dominantward, thumb uppermost; active fingers point nondominantward and become downward-oblique at the low stroke. Exact roll and grip curvature are authored from the visible citation.; location: Base at nondominant lower chest; active from dominant central chest to upper abdomen with separation from the base.; path: Nearly stationary base grip while dominant grip makes three downward strokes, two upward resets, then holds the lower endpoint.; contact: Visible separation between the groups; no mandatory hand/body or interhand contact is shown. Projected depth is not a numeric source measurement.; repetition: Three downward strokes with two resets.; source_frames: All84: held setup1–19; rise20–25; down26–32; reset33–40; down41–46; reset47–54; down55–65; lower hold66–84. Numeric fitting and fluent Deaf ASL review pending.

Source has ordinary gaze toward the work space and citation facial activity. Obligatory lexical nonmanual status is unestablished; fluent review pending.

October 2: 400 additional manual prototypes

That release brought the catalog to 1,535 manual entries and 187 aliases. This batch adds 400 entries and 5 aliases, including 15 new common forms. It includes 58 explicit compounds and 71 initialized-form annotations; these categories overlap. This is not a claim of 400 new lexical roots. No fingerspelling receives additional sign credit.

All additions have source notes and production-pose technical review. Text, illustration and demonstration coverage varies by entry. Contact and clearance checks sample documented poses and targeted paths; they are not continuous collision or linguistic certification. Forms using the unchanged alphabet-Z handshape retain its known same-hand overlap limitation.

The prior 1,135 motions and Maya’s avatar, alphabet and viewing/composition controls are preserved. Fluent Deaf ASL review remains pending. Watch the whole motion without its label at normal and slow speed, compare the linked sense and variant, and record what you understand.

  1. Kangaroo: A kangaroo; two synchronized forward hand hops. Reference

Two matching palm-down bent-flat hands stay shoulder-width apart. Their joined fingers bend at the large knuckles, thumbs extended. Both hands rise and arc forward/down twice, ending lower and farther from the torso. Handshapes stay constant: no alternating finger bends, hand contact, or leg animation. Distinct from RABBIT and the V-leg JUMP form.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  2. Ski: To ski; the hooked-index downhill-skiing citation form. Reference

Both hooked-index hands are palm up in neutral space. Two quick, simultaneous forward/down pulses with a return between them. The other fingers stay folded. This selects the first source form, not its hooked-two or cross-country variants.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  3. Knock: To knock on a door; the one-handed A-hand form. Reference

The dominant A hand faces outward beside the upper torso and makes two small forward/down taps in the air. The base hand rests. This uses the first one-handed citation form rather than the separate upright-base-palm classifier demonstration. No source contact is required.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  4. Accordion: An accordion, the musical instrument. Reference

Two curved open hands face each other before the lower chest. The dominant hand opens outward from an inward position, then compresses inward again; the base hand stays comparatively still. Small finger flexions accompany the bellows motion. No contact; not the separate accordion-book form.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  5. Drum: Playing a drum with sticks. Reference

Matching hooked-index grips alternate downward beating strokes before the torso: dominant, base, dominant. Wrists flex on each downbeat, with no physical target or hand contact. This is a stick-drumming form, not generic closed-fist punches.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  6. Flute: Playing a flute; the lateral instrument citation form. Reference

The dominant gathered curved fingers stay near the mouth and move toward the non-dominant shoulder twice. The base curved hand stays farther laterally at shoulder height; both sets of fingers flex as keys. No forced mouth or hand contact. This retains the lateral flute placement rather than harmonica or saxophone geometry.

The source lightly purses the lips; an obligatory lexical mouth marker is not established. The avatar mouth remains neutral and fluent review is pending.

  7. Harmonica: Playing a harmonica. Reference

Both gathered hands face inward at mouth level. The dominant fingertips pass sideways in front of the lips toward the relatively stationary base hand and return twice, with small opening/closing. Mouth proximity is authored without body collision. The base fingertips stay gathered beside the cheek, distinguishing flute.

The source shows pursed lips. Their lexical obligation is unresolved; the authored neutral mouth needs fluent Deaf ASL review.

  8. Harp: Playing a harp. Reference

A spread dominant hand crosses the chest toward a high curved base hand, then draws back toward the dominant side with individual finger flexions. The dominant palm faces the torso and fingers point across it. The base stays at the non-dominant shoulder. No contact; not a rigid bellows or downward guitar strum.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  9. Karate: Karate; the documented two-K-hand form. Reference

Two K hands exchange high/low placement in opposing chopping arcs, crossing near the midline and ending with the dominant hand lower and farther forward. K stays constant. This is one crossing/exchange, with no invented impact or extra strike; the source flat-hand variant is not another entry.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  10. Saxophone: Playing a saxophone. Reference

Curved, separated key fingers remain vertically staggered: dominant near mouth/upper chest and base at central upper abdomen. Both descend, return and descend together while fingers flex. Preserve the vertical gap and oblique inward palms. No contact; not the closer dominant-side trumpet placement.

Pursed citation lips are visible in the source; lexical obligation is unestablished. Neutral avatar mouth and context require fluent review.

  11. Tennis: Playing tennis. Reference

One loose hooked-index racket grip sweeps from the dominant shoulder side across the chest and returns, with coordinated forearm and wrist rotation. The base hand rests. No ball toss or extra strokes; the one-hand transverse path differs from paired bat fists, forward punches and bowling.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  12. Violin: Playing a violin; the F/9 bow-grip form. Reference

A dominant F/9 bow grip draws down toward the dominant chest and back across the non-dominant upper-arm area twice. The palm-up base stays high beside the non-dominant shoulder and makes fretting finger wiggles. Preserve clearance at the upper arm instead of forcing penetration. VIOLA shares the form and is not another counted entry; the separately modified FIDDLE variant is excluded.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  13. Mix: Blend or combine into a mixture; the two-claw-hand form. Reference

Two active curved five-hands face each other, initially dominant down above base up, and circulate around each other twice. Fingers stay clawed, with no strike or body contact. This uses detailed primary text; two cycles and exact timing are provisional rather than captured, and it is not utensil stirring.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  14. Wring: Wring a wet cloth with a twisting squeeze. Reference

A curved dominant grip closes beside the base grip, then the two closed fists counter-rotate once as if wringing wet cloth. The hands remain adjacent in lower neutral space. No repeated finger pumping, and no broad alias for all squeezing senses.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  15. Slice: Cut food into slices; blade-hand beside a fist. Reference

A stationary horizontal fist represents the object. The dominant vertical flat hand makes two distinct downward slicing strokes beside its thumb/index end, tilting fingers forward/down and lifting to reset. It does not slice across an open palm and is not a BREAD or KNIFE replay.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  16. Iron: Press clothing with an iron; not the metal. Reference

The base flat palm faces up, fingers toward the dominant side. A closed dominant grip with a visible side thumb glides in two compact horizontal passes over that support, resetting between. Preserve linear travel rather than the circular fist scrubbing of WASH.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  17. Hang: Suspend an object from above; one hook placement. Reference

A dominant hooked index rises/advances slightly and settles downward once, holding as a hanging hook. The base hand rests. This is the first one-handed suspending-object form, excluding execution, a two-hand clothes hanger and hang-on idioms.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  18. Stapler: A stapler; pressing a stapler to fasten paper. Reference

A palm-down bent-flat dominant hand with an extended thumb closes and presses toward the stationary palm-up base, reopens and presses again. The finger closure is essential. This is one stapler/paper-fastening entry, not separately counted noun and verb clones; verb aspect remains for fluent review.

No obligatory lexical facial marker established by these references; contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  19. Introduce: Make one person acquainted with another. Reference

Both flat open hands have upward palms and fingertips directed toward one another. They converge laterally once in neutral space and hold, without an added touch or repeated stroke. Placement, gap and timing are authored from the text constraints; geometry and fluent review are pending. This is paired convergence, distinct from INVITE.

No lexical nonmanual configuration established by the selected articulation text; the avatar face stays unchanged. Contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  20. Announce: Make something publicly or formally known. Reference

Two palm-in index hands with a modest backward/outward lean begin with intended light forefinger contact at the chin, then depart forward and toward their own sides along one outward arc each. The index shape stays fixed; no historical G-hand form or second stroke is added. Exact arc curvature and timing are authored. Chin contact, mutual finger clearance and the complete transition require production mesh review.

No lexical nonmanual configuration established by the selected articulation text; the avatar face stays unchanged. Contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  21. Advertise: Promote a product, service or event publicly. Reference

Both hands retain closed S fists and sideward palms. The dominant fist is forward of the stationary base fist and makes two horizontal rearward taps against it, resetting forward between taps. There is no vertical WORK strike. The chosen lateral palm azimuth, bone-envelope contact proxy, distance and timing are authored and unvalidated on the skin mesh. Commercial/publicize are not separately counted forms.

No lexical nonmanual configuration established by the selected articulation text; the avatar face stays unchanged. Contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  22. Speechread: Understand speech by watching the speaker's lip movements. Reference

The dominant V has its palm down and two fingertips directed toward the mouth. It sweeps toward the signer's left twice, with a return between strokes. The non-dominant hand rests; there is no page hand and no mouth contact. LIPREAD is an alias of this one counted entry. Travel, clearance and timing are authored; no English mouthing is inferred from the source.

No lexical nonmanual configuration established by the selected articulation text; the avatar face stays unchanged. Contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  23. Doubt: Disbelieve a claim or feel uncertain; the I-doubt-it citation form. Reference

A palm-down V is placed before the nose, its fingers directed noseward, then the hand moves backward toward the signer once while the two extended fingers curl into bent V. The base hand rests. Use the modern one-stroke citation, excluding the slower repeated DOUBTFUL and historical repeated variants. No nose touch or lexical facial expression is invented. Timing, distance and use of the existing bentV cache are authored and require review.

No lexical nonmanual configuration established by the selected articulation text; the avatar face stays unchanged. Contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  24. Imagine: Form a mental image; the paired I-hand circling form. Reference

Two I hands remain near the sides of the forehead, palms facing one another and pinkies upward, and make two alternating forward circles without head contact. HandSpeak supports the I hands, head location and alternating circles; ASL Bloom supplies the opposed palms and forward direction. Radius, phase mapping and timing are authored. This is supplemental-text-supported and needs geometry and fluent Deaf ASL review; it is not a replay of IDEA or DREAM.

No lexical nonmanual configuration established by the selected articulation text; the avatar face stays unchanged. Contextual facial grammar and intelligibility remain pending fluent Deaf ASL review.

  25. Stretch: General stretching, including a body part. Reference

Two S fists start adjacent before the sternum. Dominant palm angles inward/down and its fist pulls once outward toward the dominant side and slightly down. Base fist stays upright with palm toward signer. No return pulse; no object-specific stretch classifier.

No obligatory lexical NMM established by the supplied research. Neutral avatar face is an unreviewed choice; assess contextual grammar in fluent Deaf ASL review.

  26. Tear: To rip material apart; not tears from the eyes. Reference

Matching F grips start palm-forward with adjacent thumb/index pinches and the other three fingers extended. Dominant pulls diagonally down/out; base pulls slightly up/out while its palm rolls down and its extended fingers turn toward the non-dominant side. One tear, no return or extra rip.

No obligatory lexical NMM established by the supplied research. Neutral avatar face is an unreviewed choice; assess contextual grammar in fluent Deaf ASL review.

  27. Kick: To strike or propel something with the foot; first citation form. Reference

The stationary flat base faces down with fingers across toward the dominant side. Dominant B is palm-in, fingers toward the non-dominant side, radial/index edge uppermost. It swings diagonally UP from below and ends once against the underside/palm of the base. No double tap.

No obligatory lexical NMM established by the supplied research. Neutral avatar face is an unreviewed choice; assess contextual grammar in fluent Deaf ASL review.

  28. Shrink: To become physically smaller, for example clothing shrinking. Reference

Matching open B hands face forward and somewhat toward each other. Earlier October 2: contact and clearance corrections

AHEAD, BEHIND, CANADA, CANDLE, CANT, CATCH UP, CHIPS, COIN, COMPETE, CRAB, CRACKER, DOLPHIN, ELBOW, HONEY, LETTUCE, MUSHROOM, MYSELF, SKUNK, STUCK, TOTAL received further corrections after review of all 35 recent additions. That correction release held the catalog at 1,135 entries and 182 aliases. The original 1,100 motions and Maya’s avatar, alphabet and viewing/composition controls are unchanged.

The dominant index stays extended and traces two rounded diving paths from the signer’s right to left beside and over a stationary palm-down flat base hand. The first wrist dip stays shallow beside the base fingertips; its lowest wrist position and steepest downward index pitch occur at different times. On the second dive, the wrist drops below the base before moving farther left; the index finishes below the base, pointing left and slightly down. No finger curl or R hand is used, and neither hand contacts the opposite hand or sleeve.

October 1: latest new animal, food and body-part additions

CRAB, HONEY, DOLPHIN, ELBOW and EYEBROW add five scoped manual prototypes and no aliases. HONEY is the food sense; ELBOW and EYEBROW use the body-part noun clips rather than their action variants. All await fluent Deaf ASL review.

  1. Crab: A crab; the two index-and-thumb pincers form. Reference

Both hands stay apart at lower chest with index and thumb open, and the other three fingers folded. Palms angle forward and slightly inward. Each index/thumb pair closes twice in place, reopening between closures. No inter-hand or body contact and no transport; distinct from the V-finger scissors of LOBSTER.

  2. Honey: Honey as food; the fingertip-to-palm cheek form. Reference

The bent middle fingertip of an open hand contacts the dominant cheek near mouth level. One smooth change straightens and joins the fingers into a flat B hand, settling its palm against the same cheek with fingertips up. Hold without a second tap or outward swat. This is not the endearment sense or the BEE pinch-and-swat form.

  3. Dolphin: A dolphin; the single-index diving form. Reference

The dominant index stays extended and traces two rounded diving paths from the signer’s right to left beside and over a stationary palm-down flat base hand. The first wrist dip stays shallow beside the base fingertips; its lowest wrist position and steepest downward index pitch occur at different times. The second dive finishes with the dominant wrist near the base-hand plane, index pointing left/down. No finger curl or R hand is used. A small depth clearance prevents the close crossing from penetrating the base hand.

  4. Elbow: The elbow body part; the open-hand cupping noun form. Reference

A gently cupped dominant palm makes two compact up-and-in contacts at the outside and underside of the stationary base elbow. The base forearm bends inward across the lower chest with a relaxed hand. This is the body-part noun, not the elbow-shove action; distinct from CRACKER’s thumb-up fist.

  5. Eyebrow: One eyebrow; the index-tracing body-part noun. Reference

The dominant index points inward toward the center of the face and traces one short outward arc along its eyebrow toward the temple, above the eye. Other fingers stay tucked and the base hand rests. This is the noun EYEBROW, not the separately demonstrated RAISE-EYEBROWS action, and no lexical brow raise is authored.

October 1: previous food, nature and instrument additions

MUSHROOM, BACON, CRACKER, CLOUD and PIANO add five source-referenced manual prototypes and no aliases. CLOUD uses the inspected opposed-palm cloud2 variant; CRACKER is the food sense. All await fluent Deaf ASL review.

  1. Mushroom: An edible mushroom or fungus; the cap-and-stem noun form. Reference

A rounded palm-down cap hand lowers onto the stationary upright base index twice, lifting between contacts. The base index remains a vertical stem. No twisting is added, and the English growth verb is not mapped to this entry.

  2. Bacon: Bacon strips; the paired-finger wavy separation form. Reference

Both adjacent index-and-middle finger pairs point obliquely toward one another, with palms angled down. The hands separate laterally while the pairs bend, extend, and bend again. No contact and no PIG-plus-MEAT compound.

  3. Cracker: A crisp food cracker; the elbow-tapping form. Reference

The folded-finger side of a thumb-up dominant fist taps the underside of the stationary base forearm beside its elbow twice. The base forearm lies diagonally across the torso. The thumb remains uppermost beside the contact region; the curled-finger side is the intended tapping surface, rather than the fist heel or broad back.

  4. Cloud: An atmospheric cloud; the opposed-palm rounded-outline variant. Reference

Loose curved hands form separated upper and lower boundaries, dominant palm down and base palm up. They make small opposing rounded paths while traveling together from the signer’s right to left. No contact or finger tapping. This follows the inspected opposed-palm demonstration (cloud2.mp4), not the separate palms-forward variant.

  5. Piano: A piano; playing across an imagined keyboard. Reference

Both palm-down hands use separated, gently curved fingers with alternating small flexions. The separated hands travel together from the signer’s right to left and back right, rather than remaining stationary as in TYPE. No contact between hands.

October 1: previous six HandSpeak-referenced additions

CANDLE, LETTUCE, GUITAR, MEXICO, ROOSTER and COIN add six manual prototypes and no aliases. The inspected media defines each selected variant. Mexico uses the modern LSM-origin form also used in ASL; coin is the singular placement form. All await fluent Deaf ASL review.

  1. Candle: A wax candle; the wrist-supported flame variant. Reference

An upright spread dominant hand flutters its fingers like a flame. The base index points upward and maintains contact beneath the dominant wrist. Both wrists stay essentially fixed; the source does not prescribe an exact flutter count.

  2. Lettuce: Lettuce; the leafy plant, using the loose-claw head-contact form. Reference

The palm heel remains beside the dominant upper head while a loose claw rocks forward twice with a small reset. The other hand rests. This is distinct from cheek-based ONION and BEER, and from BALD or CABBAGE.

  3. Guitar: A guitar; the documented F-hand strumming variant. Reference

The inward-facing F hand makes two downward strumming arcs. Its free fingers turn from across the torso when high to downward when low, returning between strokes. A stationary curved base hand supports an imagined instrument neck. No body or hand contact is intended; distinct from MUSIC.

  4. Mexico: Mexico; the modern V-hand form borrowed from LSM and used in ASL. Reference

A horizontal palm-down V near the forehead rotates outward to an oblique palm-forward V twice. The wrist resets between turns and stays near the forehead. No firm strike. The older X-hand Mexico/Spain form is not used.

  5. Rooster: A rooster; adult male chicken, using the comb-on-head form. Reference

The thumb of a constant three-hand makes two short forehead contacts with a small release. Index and middle remain up, ring and pinky folded. The other hand rests. No historical beak component is prepended.

  6. Coin: One coin; the singular F-to-palm form. Reference

The dominant F lowers and pronates until its thumb/index loop meets the upturned base palm once. It holds briefly, then releases slightly. The F is retained; this is distinct from repeated flat-O MONEY taps and forehead-based CENT.

October 1: nine earlier scoped additions

These nine entries add no aliases or fingerspelled substitutes. POWER OFF is specific to electricity, MYSELF is first-person, and COMPETE avoids automatically mapping the ambiguous English word RACE. AMERICA remains deferred for interlaced-finger geometry review.

  1. Freshman: A first-year student; the standard ring-finger academic-year form. Reference

The dominant flat palm taps the stationary five-hand ring fingertip twice. This specific contact distinguishes the form from SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR and SENIOR; RAT and FOX variants are not used.

  2. Most: Most; the greatest quantity or proportion. Reference

Two inward-facing A hands retain their shapes. The dominant hand rises once from below to above the stationary base, passing close to its side. Distinct from MANY, BEST and ALMOST.

  3. Total: The total or sum; gathering the whole amount. Reference

Loose claws begin apart, with the base hand high and dominant hand low. Both scoop inward and gather into flattened-O shapes; the upper fingertips meet the lower gathered fingertips. This is not the flat-hand ALL sweep.

  4. Kite: A flying toy; the documented flat-hand kite and index-string variant. Reference

An elevated flat hand flutters slightly while the base index represents the string below it. The configuration travels a short distance toward the nondominant side. A small upward/right head pose approximates looking toward the kite; eye tracking is not generated.

  5. Power off: Switch off electrical power; shut down a device or lights. Reference

Both open curved hands close into compact, downward-pointing hands with one small downward wrist movement, then hold. No reopening. The label is restricted to electrical power, not every English use of OFF.

  6. Myself: Myself; first-person reflexive, directed to the signer. Reference

The A hand taps twice near the center chest with the length of its thumb side. The thumb remains upright rather than jabbing its tip inward. This fixed first-person form is not labelled generic SELF or YOURSELF.

  7. Compete: Compete in a contest or race; not racial identity. Reference

Two palm-facing A hands alternate forward and back so that they exchange which is ahead. No spiral. The ambiguous English word RACE is not added as an automatic alias.

  8. Catch up: Catch up; reach the position of someone ahead. Reference

The base A hand starts ahead toward the nondominant side and stays fixed. The dominant A advances from nearer the body until the hands are adjacent, stopping without passing. This differs from AHEAD, FOLLOW and CHASE.

  9. Canada: Canada; the documented A-hand chest-tapping country form. Reference

The palm side of the dominant A hand makes two light taps on the upper dominant-side chest. The hand does not grab clothing. This differs in orientation and location from MYSELF.

October 1: previous five entries

AHEAD, BALD, STUCK, SKUNK and GONE have scoped forms and inspected demonstrations. “ahead of” and “absent” are aliases, not extra signs. Fluent review remains pending.

  1. Ahead: Ahead of; spatially in front of another position. Reference

Facing A hands begin together. Only the dominant hand moves forward ahead of the stationary base hand. Spatial citation form, distinct from BEHIND and paired forward ACCOMPANY.

  2. Bald: Bald scalp; the one-handed empty-scalp variant. Reference

A loose spread hand with its middle finger bent toward the scalp traces a small horizontal circle over the crown. The supporting hand rests. This location and path distinguish the form from EMPTY; regional alternatives exist.

  3. Stuck: Stuck or trapped; the neck-contact V-hand form. Reference

A palm-in V makes one compact inward/upward approach into the low central neck above the neckline. Its fingertips sit side-by-side, naturally staggered, with the middle slightly higher. Both are checked separately against the production neck/collar; the other hand rests. No additional contextual senses are automatically mapped.

  4. Skunk: A skunk; the initialized K-hand stripe variant. Reference

The K hand begins near the forehead and moves backward over the crown to suggest a stripe. The wrist turns from forward-facing toward palm-down while retaining K. The other hand rests; no smell-related facial expression is inferred.

  5. Gone: Gone or absent; no longer present, using the first documented form. Reference

A transverse base C closes to flattened O as the dominant loose five hand drops below it and gathers to flattened O, ending palm-up. Distinct from the index-hand DISAPPEAR and from LEAVE or DEPLETE. Contextual euphemisms are not selected automatically.

October 1: earlier five entries

The source text and illustrated sequences were checked. These animations are newly authored approximations, not motion capture or approved teaching material. Click an entry to inspect Maya at normal and slow speed, then compare its reference.

  1. Behind: Behind; spatially in back of something, not falling behind schedule. Reference

Facing A hands begin together. The dominant hand draws behind the stationary base hand. Spatial citation form; referents are not inferred.

  2. Still: Still doing or being something; a continuing state, not motionless. Reference

Two palm-down Y hands travel forward in one dipping arc, then rise. This form is distinguished from STAY and the A-hand CONTINUE form; sentence-level expression is not inferred.

  3. Underwear: Underwear worn on the lower body; the two-handed outline form. Reference

Palms face the body. Inverted L hands begin near the lower torso, separate along the garment outline, then close into G hands near the hips. Not the older chin variant or the separate BRA sign.

  4. Chips: Potato chips; documented C/S variant. Fingerspelling is also used. Reference

The dominant C-hand thumb brushes the back of a palm-down base S fist in two compact downward-forward strokes. This documented variant is not presented as universal or as the chocolate-chip form.

  5. Can't: Cannot; being unable to do something. A lexical negative form. Reference

The dominant index pad descends to the base index nail; the base stays nearly stationary. A small negative headshake is authored over this sign. This does not generate sentence-wide negation, facial grammar or grammatical scope.

Fluent Deaf ASL review checklist

  1. Confirm the intended sense, dialect or variant. Compare against the linked demonstration rather than its English label alone.
  2. Check both hands: finger and thumb shape, palm and finger direction, location, supporting hand and any contact.
  3. Check the entire path: direction, rotation, hold, repetition, speed and rhythm. Look for unintended hand or body intersections.
  4. Check lexical and grammatical expression: brows, eyes, head, mouth and body. CAN’T currently has a small authored headshake; this does not supply sentence-wide negation or facial grammar.
  5. Watch without the label at normal speed. Record the meaning actually understood, then inspect again at 0.5× and from both sides.
  6. Compare similar forms: BEHIND/WITH/ACCOMPANY, STILL/STAY/CONTINUE, and CAN/CAN’T. Check each new form before and after face, torso and two-hand signs.
  7. Record reviewer, date, exact entry and version, understood meaning, needed correction and outcome: accepted for this sense, correction required, or unresolved. No acceptance has been recorded yet.

What the checks establish

Byte-for-byte preservation of earlier motions and the avatar; finite, normalized motion samples; valid catalog mappings; and continuous transitions. These checks cannot decide whether an ASL signer will understand the intended meaning.

Entered word order is preserved. This composer does not automatically translate English grammar, choose referents or generate contextual facial expression.
